Ex-Formula 1 pilot raced along the most winding road in America “Speed” conquered the “Dragon”

On the border of the states of North Carolina and Tennessee in the United States is the “Dragon”, aka the “Dragon’s Tail”.

This nickname was given to the road, which has 18 kilometers of 318 turns at once – the road, which is the southwestern border of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, has no development and passes through a picturesque area, which has made it a favorite place for travelers. In addition, the road, which is called the most winding in the United States, attracts fans of extreme sports.

American racer Scott Speed, who competed in Formula 1 and now competes in rallycross and classic rally, raced the Dragon in a Subaru WRX STi sedan prepared by the Subaru Motorsports USA factory team.

Especially for the race, the track was blocked, which made it possible to drive at the highest possible speed. The road, the most dangerous turns of which even have their own names – Copperhead Corner, Hog Pen Bend, Wheelie Hell, Shade Tree Corner, Mud Corner, Sunset Corner, Gravity Cavity, Beginner’s End, Brake Bend – has a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour.

However, for the rider, all this did not play a role. Along the track, which in North Carolina is called Tapoco Road and Calderwood Highway in Tennessee, Scott Speed drove in a spectacular manner – with drifting and cornering attack, which can be assessed in the video prepared after the race.
